An artist is able to plunge into the well of poetry and prose in search of inspiration and often a direct visual reference is desired.

Just as great filmmakers inspired modern painters, great painters influenced the mise en scène of directors and cinematographers throughout film history.

The paintings are often recreated as a brief homage on canvas, but these static works of art also informed the structures and themes of entire scenes and, in some cases, complete films.
